Stained Glass

One series (see right) shows Old Testament themes. These are on the "North" side of the nave, where the windows are shortened because the halls are on the other side of the wall.

When the church was restored following the fire of 1994, new stained glass was designed and made by Susan Bradbury, of the Stained Glass Design Partnership of Kilmaurs. The stained glass is entirely mouthblown, and includes prisms, lenses and textured glass to create special effects.

There are several groups, dealing with different themes, including Creation, Light the gift of God, and Baptism.

Particularly striking is the window at the back of the church ("West"), which combines images of the burning bush and the Phoenix arising from its ashes (see left).

The Creation windows (see right) have a panel for each of the days of the Creation story.

High above the phoenix window is a tiny window (see left) inspired by Hildegard of Bingen's A feather on the breath of God.

The Crucifixion window at the front of the nave ("East") uses a simple pattern of prisms against a watery texture (see left). The small lights show Alpha and Omega.

The Living Stones window in the chancel, based on agates, recalls the congregations commitment after the fire to be "living stones" (1 Peter 2).
