This website is based on the Church of Scotland's Common Order.
The Liturgical Year: The liturgical programme begins with the four Sundays of Advent, leading up to the Nativity (Christmas), then Epiphany, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost. Easter is a "movable feast" since the date depends on both the solar and lunar calendars, and this affects the dates for Lent and Pentecost too. Pages on this web site calculate the appropriate liturgical week. There is also liturgy for special days, some of which are fixed (e.g. St Andrew's Day, Nov 30) and some movable (e.g. Ascension).
Scripture Readings are based on the Revised Common Lectionary, which uses a three year cycle of readings, starting with Advent. Year A started on 28 November 2004.
