There is a three year cycle of scripture sentences, as for the Lectionary. Year A started on 2 December 2001.

Stand upright and hold your heads high, because your liberation is near. Luke 21:28

The Lord God had warned them time and again through his messengers, for he took pity on his people and on his dwelling-place. 2 Chronicles 36:15

Dec 11-17 Advent 3

Dec 18-24 Advent 4

Nativity Proper 1

Nativity Proper 2

Nativity Proper 3

The Word became flesh; he made his home among us, and we saw his glory, such glory as befits the Father's only Son, full of grace and truth. John 1:14

Christmas 1

This is how he showed his love among us: he sent his only Son into the world that we might have life through him. 1 John 4:9

January 1

God bestowed on him the name above all names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, and every tongue acclaim, 'Jesus Christ is Lord'. Philippians 2:9-11

New Year's Day

In past times God spoke through the prophets; but in this final age he has spoken to us in his Son. Hebrews 1:1-2

Christmas 2

Jan 6 Epiphany

Where is the new-born king of the Jews? We observed the rising of his star, and have come to pay him homage. Matthew 2:2

Jan 7-13 Epiphany 1

There came a voice from heaven, saying, 'This is my beloved Son, in whom I take delight'. Matthew 3:17

Jan 14-20 Epiphany 2

God has caused his light to shine in our hearts, the light which is knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6

Feb 2 Presentation

One thing I ask of the Lord, it is the one thing I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. Psalm 27:4

Jan 28-Feb 3 Epiphany 4

You know the generosity of our Lord Jesus Christ: he was rich, yet for our sakes he became poor, so that through his poverty you might become rich. 2 Corinthians 8:9

Feb 4-10 Epiphany 5

Jesus said, 'I am the light of the world. No follower of mine shall walk in darkness; he shall have the light of life'. John 8:12

Feb 11-17 Epiphany 6

Last of Epiphany

The Son of man must be lifted up, in order that everyone who has faith may in him have eternal life. John 3:14-15

Ash Wednesday

I thirst for God, the living God; when shall I come to appear in his presence? Psalm 42:2

Lent 1

Because Jesus himself has passed through the test of suffering, he is able to help those who are in the midst of their test. Hebrews 2:18

Lent 2

Let your face shine on your servants; save us in your unfailing love. Psalm 31:1b

Lent 3

Frail mortals are filled with the rich plenty of your house, and you give then to drink from the stream of your delights; for with you is the fountain of life. Psalm 36:7,8

Lent 4

Send out your light and your truth to be my guide; let them lead me to your holy hill, to your dwelling-place. Psalm 43:3

Lent 5

Our God is a God who saves; to the Lord God belongs all escape from death. Psalm 68:20

Lent 6

We proclaim Christ nailed to the cross. He is the power of God and the wisdom of God. 1 Corinthians 1:23,24

Holy Week Mon

Those who choose to do my will, will receive from me a memorial and a name in my own house and within my walls; for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations. Isaiah 56:4,5,7

Holy Week Tue

Let the gospel of Christ dwell among you in all its richness: teach and instruct one another with all the wisdom it gives you. Colossians 3:16

Holy Week Wed

God, hear my cry; listen to my prayer. From the end of the earth I call to you with a fainting heart; lift me up and set me high on a rock. Psalm 61:1-2

Holy Week Thur

We must not use the old leaven, the leaven of depravity and wickedness, but only the unleavened bread which is sincerity and truth. 1 Corinthians 5:8

Good Friday

Joy has vanished from our hearts; our dancing is turned to mourning. Woe to us, sinners that we are! Lamentations 5:15,16

Saturday

Give light to my eyes lest I sleep the sleep of death, lest my enemies say, 'I have overthrown him'. Psalm 13:3,4

Easter Vigil

Awake, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine upon you. Ephesians 5:14

Easter Day

We are here to give you the good news, that God has fulfilled the promise by raising Jesus from the dead. Acts 13:32,33

Easter Evening

By the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, God gave us new birth into a living hope. 1 Peter 1:3

Easter 2

Scripture speaks of 'things beyond our seeing, prepared by God for those who love him'; and these are what God has revealed to us through the Spirit. 1 Corinthians 2:9-10

Easter 3

When they asked, he gave them bread of heaven in plenty. Psalm 105:40

Easter 4

Acknowledge that the Lord is God; he made us, and we are his, his own people, the flock which he shepherds. Psalm 100:3

Easter 5

I shall run the course made known in your commandments, for you set free my heart. Psalm 119:32

Easter 6

If you, bad as you are, know how to give good things to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him! St Matthew 7:11

Ascension

We see Jesus, who for a short while was made subordinate to the angels, crowned now with glory and honour. Hebrews 2:9

Easter 7

God's mighty strength was seen at work when he raised Christ from the dead, and enthroned him at his right hand in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 1:20

Pentecost

Through the Holy Spirit he has given us, God's love has flooded our hearts. Romans 5:5

Trinity

Through Christ we have access to the Father in the one Spirit. Ephesians 2:18

May 29-Jun 4

You are a people claimed by God as his own, to proclaim the glorious deeds of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvellous light. 1 Peter 2:9

Jun 5-11

The victory by which the world is overcome is our faith. 1 John 5:4

Jun 12-18

The Spirit of God affirms to our spirit that we are God's children. He comes to the aid of our weakness. Romans 8:16,26

Jun 19-25

Take heart, you seekers after God. For the Lord listens to the poor and does not despise his captive people. Psalm 69:32,33

Jun 26-Jul 2

Be generous to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32

Jul 3-Jul 9

Serve one another in love. Galatians 5:13

Jul 10-16

The grass may wither, the flower fade, but the word of our God will endure for ever. Isaiah 40:8

Jul 17-23

My one desire is to know Christ and the power of his resurrection.  Philippians 3:10

Jul 31-Aug 6

Never again shall they feel hunger or thirst; because the Lamb who is at the centre of the throne will be their shepherd and will guide them to springs of the water of life. Revelation 7:16,17

Aug 7-13

The life I now live is not my life, but the life which Christ lives in me. Galatians 2:20

Aug 14-20

It was not to judge the world that God sent his Son into the world, but that through him the world might be saved. John 3:17

Aug 21-27

We know that the Son of God has come and given us understanding to know the true God. 1 John 5:20

Aug 28-Sep 3

Offer your very selves to God: a living sacrifice, dedicated and fit for his acceptance. Romans 12:1

Sep 4-10

Cry out, shout aloud, for the Holy One of Israel is among you in majesty. Isaiah 12:6

Sep 11-17

Bless the Lord, my soul. He parsons all my wrongdoing, and crowns me with love and compassion. Psalm 103:1,3,4

Sep 18-24

To the Lord belong the earth and everything in it, the world and all its inhabitants. Psalm 24:1

Sep 25-Oct 1

Look to the Lord and be strong: at all times seek his presence. Psalm 105:4

Sep 29 Michaelmas

You have made the Most High your dwelling-place. he will charge his angels to guard you wherever you go. Psalm 91:9,11

Oct 2-8

How good and how pleasant it is to live together in unity! Psalm 133:1

Oct 9-15

Happy are those whom you choose and bring near to remain in your courts. Grant us in abundance the bounty of your house. Psalm 65:4

Oct 16-22

What does the Lord your God ask of you? Only this: to fear the Lord your God, to conform to all his ways, to love him, and to serve him with all your soul. Deuteronomy 10:12

Oct 23-29

The law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. John 1:17

Nov 1 All Saints

Give joyful thanks to the Father, who has made you fit to share the heritage of God's people, in the realm of light. Colossians 1:12

Oct 30-Nov 5

We have put our faith in Jesus Christ, in order that we might be justified through this faith, and not through actions dictated by the law. Galatians 2:16

Nov 6-12

Lead me by your faithfulness and teach me, for you are my God and my saviour; in you I put my hope all day long. Psalm 25:5

Nov 11 Remembrance

Not to us, Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory for your love, for your faithfulness! Psalm 115:1

Nov 13-19

How long, Lord, will you hide yourself from sight? Remember how fleeting is our life! Psalm 89:46,47

Nov 20-26

The Lord has become King, clothed with majesty; the Lord is robed, girded with might. Psalm 93:1

Nov 30 St Andrew

One of the two who followed Jesus was Andrew. The first thing he did was to find his brother Simon, and say to him, 'We have found the Messiah'. He brought Simon to Jesus. John 1:40-42

Christian Unity

God has reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has enlisted us in this ministry of reconciliation. 2 Corinthians 5:18

Spring

As the earth puts forth her blossom or plants in the garden burst into flower, so will the Lord God make his victory and renown blossom before all nations. Isaiah 61:11

Harvest

The earth has yielded its harvest. May God, our God, bless us. Psalm 67:6

Dedication

Come, bless the Lord, all you his servants. Lift up your hands towards the sanctuary and bless the Lord. Psalm 134:1,2
